Resources and Information After ICE Activity in Nashville

5/5/2025

On May 4, 2025 South Nashville community members were targeted in a coordinated effort between Tennessee Highway Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Many were arrested, and some were released, but others are still anxious over the safety of their loved ones.

If you or someone you know were affected, there are resources available:
  • Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) Resource Line: 615-414-1030
  • Visit TNImmigrant.org/rights -  you can download resources in English or Spanish

What should you do if ICE agents knock on your door?
  1. If  you see ICE coming to your door, you do not have to let them in without a signed warrant by a criminal court judge.
  2. According to TIRRC you can remain silent and let agents know you are using your 5th amendment right.
  3. Take photos or videos of the situation, or try to document, or take mental notes of how many agents there are, what they are telling you, and if they identified themselves.
  4. Make sure you have a plan. If you are detained, ask for your lawyer.
  5. According to United We Dream, you should not sign anything ICE gives you without talking to an attorney.

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT), in partnership with Metro Nashville, has also launched The Belonging Fund to support immigrants in Nashville during this moment of crisis. The fund provides financial resources to nonprofit organizations offering emergency assistance. Funds may be used for housing instability, child care, transportation, food insecurity, or other urgent needs – but not legal services.

If you are pulled over by the police, TIRRC says to stay calm, keep your hands visible, if you are driving show officers your driver’s license, registration, and insurance. Let the officer know if you don’t understand English.
